Our friends over at Wasted Talent teamed up with Sun Bum's newest ambassador, Arthur Longo, and journeyed to Japan. The finished product? "Washed Up," a film you’ll want to watch on repeat (luckily we’ve got you covered here). The name "Washed Up" is a literal translation that came from a sanitary band on Arthur's hotel toilet. If that doesn't entice you then Arthur's buttery powder riding and iconic side hits certainly will.
Follow along as Arthur arrives in the crowded streets of Tokyo and takes to the sleek skyscrapers and neon lights. After taking in the urban landscape, Arthur and friends head to Japan's northernmost island, Hokkaido, in search of nature's perfect playground, aka powder covered landscapes. Hokkaido didn’t disappoint. Relentless snowstorms made way for ideal conditions and a wellspring of creative inspiration.
In his downtime, Arthur muses on Japanese culture and reflects on the ways it inspires him to try new methods, techniques, and textures—both on and off his board. Crispy carves in the foreground, volcanoes in the background, Arthur's whimsical and free-flowing riding parallel his surreal and dreamlike art compositions in an effortless blend of playfulness and perfection.
Throughout the film, Arthur shares how the respect for the environment and the celebration of craftsmanship in Japanese culture spark his creativity. It’s clear that someone like Arthur, with a unique appreciation for the often-overlooked details of life, finds joy in nuances of craft and quality, giving the viewer a genuine reflection of who he is.
